Question
·  Who are we?
·  What does the Cardiff Cycling Campaign do?
·  What are your current campaigns?
·  What else do you offer cyclists?
·  What benefits do members get?
·  How will my money be spent?

Answer
·  Who are we?

We are a number of different people from all walks of life who either enjoy cycling for recreation, or see it as a viable means of transport. We all live in, or aorund Cardiff, though our campaign will gladly welcome members from anywhere! We all agree that Cardiff County Council's attitude towards cyclists is inadequate at best, and dangerous at worst.

·  What does the Cardiff Cycling Campaign do?

Our primary goal is to actively campaign to improve the lots of cyclists in and around Cardiff. We take our campaigns directly to the Council through focus groups and meetings.

We also provide a focal point for anyone interested in cycling around Cardiff.

·  What are your current campaigns?

As well as campaigning to improve the facilities available to cyclists in Cardiff generally, we are currently pursuing some specific areas: the new St Davids 2 development, the A470, the Cogan Spur, and the Western Cycling Corridor. Since these areas are currently under development, and Cardiff County Council claims to want to provide a sustainable transport policy, there should be no reason why cyclists should be excluded from these areas.

Indeed, given that these areas are new developments together with the rising profile of cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly means of transport, and also that Cardiff has long since reached saturation point for cars (see here, here, and here), one would think that Cardiff County Council would be motivated to provide alternative means of transport. Unfortunately, they are still very much stuck in the car-orientated mentality of the 70s.

·  What else do you offer cyclists?

We host monthly meetings where cyclists can air their views on Cardiff's facilities and enable us to bring those views to the people that matter. We offer advice to members on how to ensure their views reach the right people. Our meetings are usually held on the 2nd Monday of each month (see our Calendar).

We publish a regular newsletter called On Your Bike which gives details of cycling events, charities, and campaigns around Cardiff and South Wales. Back issues are available to download from our downloads section.

We organise a weekly schedule of evening bike rides for cyclists of all abilities and interests. Refer to our Calendar for upcoming rides.

We are also able to offer members a number of discounts on bikes and accessories at local bike shops.

In addition, some of the money will be used to maintain this website so that members get the very best we can offer.
